The 3rd Provincial Youth Conference 2024: Karnali Province, organized by the Nepal Youth Council (NYC) in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development, Karnali Province, was held from April 4-7, 2024, at Suva Hotel, Birendranagar, Surkhet. It concluded on a high note, leaving behind a trail of inspiration, collaboration, and optimism. With 344 participants, including 210 male and 134 female delegates, the event truly showcased the diversity and potential of Karnali’s youth. The inclusion of 2 attendees from the Raute community and 28 participants with disabilities, comprising 10 males and 18 females, underscored the conference’s commitment to inclusivity.
The conference addressed pressing regional issues such as agricultural sustainability, youth entrepreneurship, social transformation, and environmental conservation. Over the course of the event, youth delegates emerged as catalysts for change, demonstrating unwavering commitment to tackling these challenges. Collaborations with 28 partner organizations, including 11 from the private sector, 7 development agencies, and 6 government partners, enriched the discussions.
Significantly, the event featured 25 dynamic speakers across various sessions, including presentations, Q&A sessions, panel discussions, and the sharing of struggles and success stories. Strong local government representation, with 47 officials actively participating, ensured that the generated ideas would receive the necessary support for implementation. The conference concluded with 10 declaration points and 25 actionable programs, signaling a robust plan for the future.
As the curtains draw on this transformative event, sustaining the momentum beyond the conference halls is crucial. Continued support from government agencies, non-profit organizations, and other stakeholders will be pivotal in translating ideas into tangible outcomes. Empowering youth leaders, providing access to resources, and fostering an enabling environment for innovation are key to realizing the vision outlined at the conference.
Key findings and recommendations include the immediate amendment of certain existing provincial policies and regulations to facilitate the implementation of youth-targeted programs. Addressing geographical constraints that hinder equitable youth participation across all districts within the province through district-level program implementation is imperative. Additionally, youth empowerment initiatives should prioritize establishing youth-friendly local governance systems.
The Provincial Youth Conference has laid the foundation for a more inclusive, equitable, and prosperous Karnali Province. The collaboration and action plans developed here will guide the region towards sustainable development, driven by the energy and vision of the young population.
