Held from March 3-5, 2024, at Ghabar Valley, Banke, the Provincial Youth Conference 2024: Lumbini Province was a resounding success, marking a pivotal moment for youth engagement and policy development in the region. With a vibrant turnout of 212 enthusiastic participants from diverse communities, the conference exemplified the power of inclusivity and the diverse voices contributing to the provincial action plan.
Diversity and Inclusion
One of the conference’s highlights was its diversity. Among the 212 participants, 14 were individuals with disabilities, ensuring that the conversation was inclusive and represented all community members. The gender balance was notable, with 112 male participants (including 5 with disabilities) and 100 female participants (including 9 with disabilities). This inclusive approach enriched the dialogue and outcomes by bringing a wide range of perspectives to the table.
Collaboration Across Sectors
The conference received strong support from a coalition of 35 partner organizations, including 7 private sector entities, 2 development agencies, and 15 civil society organizations. This broad-based support underscored the collective commitment to addressing youth issues and implementing effective action plans. Additionally, 11 government partners and representatives from 41 local governments played a crucial role in shaping the discussions and outcomes.
Engaging and Empowering Youth
Participants engaged in dynamic sessions led by 18 inspiring speakers. The conference yielded 52 action plans, reflecting the proactive stance of youth towards addressing key issues. These action plans are poised to drive significant change across the province, fueled by the energy and innovation of young leaders.
Declaration Points: Charting the Future
The conference culminated in the adoption of 11 declaration points, laying the groundwork for future initiatives and highlighting critical areas needing attention and action:
1) Safeguarding Native Food and Seeds: Recognizing the province’s tourism potential, there was a strong emphasis on protecting native food and seeds and promoting sustainable agriculture.
2) Youth Entrepreneurship: The conference emphasized the need to foster youth entrepreneurship through dedicated programs, empowering young individuals to create and sustain their ventures.
3) Climate Change Mitigation: Youth involvement in effective climate change mitigation efforts was highlighted, positioning young people as key players in environmental stewardship.
