Nepal Youth Council Supports Flood-Affected Students in Kavre

Education is the foundation for a brighter future, yet natural disasters can put this right at risk for many children. This was the unfortunate reality for students in Roshi Rural Municipality, Kavre, who were severely affected by the devastating floods and landslides that struck from September 26 to 28, 2024. These events not only claimed lives and destroyed homes but also caused extensive damage to community schools, disrupting the educational journey of hundreds of students.

In response to this crisis, the Nepal Youth Council (NYC) stepped forward, showcasing its commitment to addressing critical social issues. Together with MasterPeace NYC, and in collaboration with partners such as Lions Club Eco-Friendly, Chinari Nepal, Raithaane Agri Products Nepal, and the Lumbini World Peace Forum, NYC distributed essential educational materials to 215 flood-affected students.

Supporting Education Amid Challenges

The distributed materials, including textbooks, stationery, and other essential supplies, ensured that students could continue their studies without further disruption. This initiative was personally led by Saroj Baniya, the Founder & President of Nepal Youth Council, reflecting NYC’s hands-on and dynamic approach to tackling pressing social challenges.

Community Appreciation and Encouragement

The effort was met with appreciation. Shiv Prasad Bhantana, the Chief Administrative Officer of Roshi Rural Municipality, acknowledged NYC and its partners for this meaningful initiative, describing it as a “model of impactful collaboration.” Similarly, Nigam Humagain, President of Nagarik Samuha (a dynamic organization committed to fostering civic engagement and social development in Nepal), encouraged students to stay connected to their communities and contribute to societal progress, even in the face of adversity.

A Decade of Dedication to Youth and Society

The Nepal Youth Council has been a beacon of youth empowerment, environmental advocacy, and entrepreneurship for over a decade. This latest initiative is a testament to NYC’s belief that education is not just a right but a pathway to rebuilding and strengthening communities.

The disaster highlighted how vulnerable children are to the effects of climate change and natural calamities. Many students lost their homes and the basic tools required for learning. NYC’s intervention not only provided practical support but also delivered a message of hope and resilience.

Gratitude and a Commitment to the Future

NYC extends heartfelt thanks to all its partners and supporters who made this effort possible. Their contributions have had a significant impact on the lives of these young students, empowering them to continue their education despite challenging circumstances.

Looking ahead, the Nepal Youth Council remains committed to addressing pressing social issues and standing with communities in need. Whether through empowering youth, tackling climate change, or supporting education, NYC will continue to act as a dynamic force for positive change in Nepal.

A Call to Action

Disasters may strike unexpectedly, but together, we can ensure that they do not strip children of their right to learn and dream. If you would like to support similar initiatives or partner with NYC in future endeavors, please reach out. Together, we can build a brighter and more resilient future for Nepal.
