Message From Founder & President
Nepal Youth Council (NYC) is a youth-led, non-profit, non-governmental, and volunteer-driven social organization fueled by the passion and energy of young individuals across Nepal. Since its inception, NYC has been dedicated to nurturing youth leadership, fostering entrepreneurship, and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through skill-based training and confidence-building initiatives, the organization empowers young people to become self-reliant and independent.
With over 13 years of formal experience (officially registered in 2012 AD, with activities informally initiated in 2010), NYC has built a strong social footprint. It operates in all 77 districts of Nepal, supported by a vast network of committed provincial coordinators. NYC focuses on six key thematic areas:
- Youth for SDGs
- Youth Entrepreneurship
- Gender Equality, Disability & Social Inclusion
- Youth for Information & Communication Technology (ICT)
- Youth for Elections
- Youth for Environment
NYC has been instrumental in shaping youth leadership, enhancing personality development, and fostering entrepreneurship. By providing training in various skills, the council equips young individuals with the confidence and capabilities needed to take on leadership roles for the nation’s progress.
A Legacy of Youth Mobilization & Leadership
The strength of Nepal’s youth has been demonstrated in times of crisis, such as the massive earthquake of April 25, 2015, and its aftershocks, where NYC actively mobilized young volunteers for rescue and support operations. With the motto “Youths are the torch-bearers of change,” NYC continues to work for the betterment of young people, driven by the vision that “Nepal is moving ahead.”
In collaboration with various national and international organizations, NYC has successfully organized programs, training sessions, and events focused on youth leadership, personality development, and entrepreneurship. Some of the council’s major initiatives include:
National Youth Conferences:
- 2015: August 12-14, Kathmandu
- 2016: August 10-12, Kathmandu
- 2017: August 12-14, Kathmandu
- 2018: Nationwide SDGs Festival (in association with UNDP Nepal)
- 2019: Asian Youth Summit (March 22-24, Kathmandu) & National Youth Conference (August 12-15, Kathmandu)
- 2020-2021: Virtual National & Provincial Youth Conferences, connecting over 10,000 youth nationwide
- 2022-2023: In-person National Youth Conferences, bringing together 220 youth from all 77 districts each year.
Provincial Youth Conference 2024:
NYC traveled to all seven provinces with the vision of empowering young individuals. The conference directly engaged over 2,000 youth and focused on developing a Provincial Action Plan while promoting local and indigenous foods and seeds through youth mobilization.
Empowering Youth for a Better Future
In today’s era of science and technology, Nepal is rapidly embracing digital advancements, creating vast opportunities for its youth. NYC encourages every young individual to harness their potential, innovate, and take charge of their future. As a nation rich in opportunities, Nepal offers immense possibilities for skilled and driven youth.
“Possibility is not given by anyone else; it’s something you create yourself.” Instead of waiting for opportunities, we must create them and work together to develop our country in unity.
