SDG Fest: Strengthening Youth Empowerment By Sustainable Development Goals

Pokhara, 15 January 2018: With the motto of ‘Decentralization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’, Nepal Youth Council (NYC) in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) Nepal has organized ‘SDG Fest’ on 14 January in Pokhara.

Scheduled on five different sessions, the fest convened eminent speakers, youth campaigners, and entrepreneurs. At the very first session of welcome ceremony, Saroj Baniya, the President of NYC, introduced about SDGs and the importance of youth power in achieving SDGs.

Renaud Meyer, Country Director at UNDP and special guest of the event imparted insights on the responsibility of achieving SDGs by civil society and youths. Additionally, he mentioned that we must go beyond the social indicators to identify what’s happening.

On the second session of a panel discussion, different youth campaigners and entrepreneurs discussed on various issues of SDGs and its localization.

Youth program officer of UNDP Nepal, Bisam Gyawali indicated the importance of SDGs and the achievements by Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on the third session of the presentation of SDGs.

On the last session of group discussion with attendees and paper presentation by the group leader, the participants were divided into groups and each group connoted on the problems faced by youths in the current pretext. They talked about the possible solutions that could be implemented from the policy level. This conclusion was submitted to Pokhara Lekhnath Municipality Office by the group leader.

Nepal Youth Council Nepal (NYC) has been actively working for a long time for the development of youth personality, entrepreneurship, leadership, self-confidence through various skill oriented training.
